About

The '36 Questions' experience is based on an article Mandy Len Catron wrote for the Modern Love column titled How to Fall in Love with a Stranger Quickly, where she shared research from psychologist Arthur Aron and his team: intimate connections between two strangers can be built rapidly by asking each other specific, personal questions. The core of this theory is that shared vulnerability fosters closeness. The study authors note: "The key pattern for developing intimate relationships between partners is sustained, gradually escalating, reciprocal, and personal self-disclosure." There are 36 questions in total for this experience. You can answer these questions together with your partner, and record the entire process via audio or video as a keepsake. If your partner is not with you at the moment, you can also turn the questions into cards, write down your answers, and share them with your partner. After answering all the questions, the '36 Questions' will remind you and your partner to gaze into each other's eyes, which was the final step Catron and her friend tried in the article. Catron highly recommends this without hesitation. "The effect after just two minutes is already amazing," she told me, "four minutes is truly very effective."
